How about this one?

This appalling mess is the front yard of a property in Goodwood. Until yesterday the trailers in front of the property were also filled with junk. Since then the junk has been moved so that all of it is on private property. Can Council do anything about this?
Yes, if they consider it unsanitary or a fire hazard. Otherwise they must take the owner to Court.
I'll let you know what happens next.

  1. Thanks for adding your personal view. This has been raised at Council and Council staff are presently doing everything within their power to rectify the problem. I notice more stuff now being stored in a trailer across the street as well. Please get your daughter to call me, I am happy to discuss.

  2. I saw the person taking more junk in there today, I cannot believe Council cannot do anything about this, it is an absolute disgrace. At least four nearby residents that I know of have contacted the Council about this.

  3. I have edited the above comment so as not to identify people. Please keep your comments to the problem and not who is causing it. I will check again on Monday the process of Council investigations. I am also appalled that phone calls to Council go unresolved and will raise this at the next Council meeting.

  4. After communication with staff; the property has now been inspected twice and each time a letter has been sent to the property asking for it to be cleared. They have a few days left to comply. It is probable that legal action may be required to see any improvement on the site. As an aside DPTI staff were asked yesterday, and I think they intend to comply, to install no parking on the northern side of Railway Tce between Devon St and Essex St. This should cause the too wide and overladen trailer to be removed and increase safety for cyclists.

  5. Ok. "A few days left to comply" would have expired on the 5th of May. Has "probable legal action" now been initiated by council to bring about "any improvement on the site"? Thanks Jennie for your support and continued investigation.

  6. My understanding is that it expires this week, I couldn't see that anything had been improved when I looked on Saturday morning.

  7. I have been past there again (Wednesday 22nd may). No "No parking" signs erected that I could see (Maybe they are behind the junk), two overloaded trailers (attached to vehicles) on the opposite side of the road, and there is now NO clear access between the dwelling and the road. It is worse than the 10th May, not better. Has legal action been taken now? If so, can it ever be enforced? I feel for those who must live around this dwelling as they have paid good money to live in a beautiful suburb and should not be subjected to rental tenants such as this.

  8. DPTI refused to consider this area of road as needing a no standing zone even though it was discussed and recommended at the Community Advisory Group. It is my understanding that fines have been issued this week for illegal parking of the vehicles (most of which are also unregistered). I also understand that Council and the landlord have now issued an eviction notice, however, there is still a long legal battle if the premises is not vacated. The premises is not considered to be habitable and yet I also believe that it is being used as a home. Council is pursuing all legal options open to it at this time. I'll take some more photos this weekend and write an update as a new blog.
