Here are the links to the Canterbury Tce final
proposal.
Clearly the staff feel that
there is not, and will not be enough bicycle traffic to have a separate bike
lane. I would love your comments and if you think we should still be considering option
2. The links below take you to the relevant agenda item and the attachments to
it. If any of you feel the need for a coffee on Sunday to discuss the
recommendations I can be at Carnivale from 2pm. Let me know if you wish me to be there. Please note the meeting is at
Fullarton Park Community Centre and not the Civic Centre. As at least one
resident will be making a deputation this matter should be debated earlier than
is shown in the agenda.
In my opinion the adoption of Option 1 (current status) will satisfy the requirement for 2 way vehicular access. I would like to see a further study scheduled for 6- 8 months hence to review how this option is working.
ReplyDeleteThis is I think a pretty minimalist option. From my point of view it does incorporate replanting on the south side of Canterbury Tce which is a plus. The report does not seem clear on the nature of the replanting but I assume that may be outlined later with possibility for further input?
ReplyDeleteI don’t believe it addresses the long term needs - including the potential impact of the cycleway - but no real reason that can’t wait until traffic volume demands action. It might be important to be clear to the Council that further work may be required in the future.
I strongly endorse the "Option 1" proposal which will be considered by Council on the 28th inst. Importantly we now look forward to the replanting of trees along Canterbury and Parker Tce. I
ReplyDeleteWith respect to Option 2 is this a proposal that you personally support and if so what do you base that support on ?
Option 2 was the more popular option from resident feedback, although at the time it was envisaged that higher cyclist use would be evident very early.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering what time the meeting is at the Fullarton Community Centre, Please?
ReplyDeleteAlso can you tell me at what point on Canterbury Tce do the cyclist enter?
Does the existing bike track stay as is, or will the rubber are be removed or replaced
The meeting starts at 7pm. Diagrams are unclear on this but travelling east cyclists will still need to cross to the left near the existing trees and then again to the right to cross East Ave. Sharrows are proposed to alert motorists that it is a shared use area.
ReplyDeleteThank you for providing this information. I think it’s fine. It accommodates everyone’s needs - a sensible decision.
