Found, out – unearthing our place

A public arts project in the parks of Goodwood and Everard Park in May

          

Found, Out is Unley’s second most recent investigative and experiential temporary public arts project re-examining our place in space and it needs your involvement.

This time, we invite you, our community to re-discover and re-connect with our local parks and reserves.

Please come along to:

Soutar Park (cnr of Albert and Hardy Sts, Goodwood) 
Saturday 9 May between 10am and 4pm

Everard Park Reserve (Hillsley Avenue, Everard Park) 
Sunday 17 May between 10am and 4pm

We will be creating installations with you (the community) over the period of two days to re-define our local and natural environment.

Using the mediums of clay, natural materials and offerings that you bring to share,  professional artists and community members will work together to conceive,  contribute and slowly transform the park with our collective sculptures.

Come and connect with the experience!

You may want to bring some objects from your natural environment to share and use as inspiration for our artwork.

Spend some time in your garden looking at the textures, beautiful or interesting objects. Bring something that is of meaning or significance to you - a flower, a leaf, a small object, a tool, a favourite ornament. We invite you to bring these to investigate more with our artists, share your story and add to the sculptures.

Or, just come along and use some of the natural materials from the park to create your own unique sculptures with the assistance of our Found, out team.                

Greeted by our team of 4 artists, you will be invited to participate in the art making process. You can then display your artwork in a favourite place in the park and take a memento away with you of your own creation. You can find your own special place at home such as a fence, in your garden, on the porch, by the letterbox or on the front door.

Let’s create a new walking trail in your local community by finding the homes which have participated in the Found, out project.

Found, out is designed to entice the community to physically interact and be involved with the environment by focusing on the natural textures and materials of the areas we live in.

We tend to spend less time interacting with our natural environment and more time indoors with technology.

This project will also help Council to understand how the community interacts with these spaces.

What happens next!

Found, art is an artistic collaboration between the City of Unley and lead artist Morag Cook.

Following our community engagement, we will be creating a touring exhibition graphically re-presenting images from the project in an artistic and flexible format. Panels will be placed in various public locations for short periods of time to encourage further debate about what makes a place a space.

Found, out is part of the first year of exciting and innovative public arts projects linked to the new Involve Unley – Public Arts Strategy. To view the Public Arts Strategy click here. 

The purpose of the first year of the Strategy is to test and experiment with temporary public arts to educate, inform, facilitate and collaborate in a new way of engaging with our community through the expression of the arts. Diverse art forms will be used to bring our public realm to life.
